Mar. 12, 2010 -- Before the 85 anniversary of the death of Sun Yat-sen, a bronze statue of Sun was completed in Jimei District, a place known as the hometown of overseas Chinese. Sun's granddaughter, Sun Huifang, unveiled the statue personally. She expressed that she hoped to apply for the intangible cultural heritage status for the Sun Yat-sen's thoughts in the future.

The bronze statue is located at the Sun Cuo Le An Primary School in Jimei District. Its height is 1.83 meters. Sun is wearing a gown and a Chinese jacket and holding a "3 Principles of the People" book looking solemn and serene. The base of the statue is octagonal in shape with 3 layers. On the bottom layer, it has a traditional Chinese culture and morality inscription. On the second are Sun Yat-sen's thoughts such as the "Premier's Testament." And on the third layer are the traditional Chinese political philosophies such as "personalities cultivated, families regulated, the states well governed, the whole world will be in peace and tranquil."

"The great leader Sun Yat-sen and the Overseas Chinese leader Sun Bingyan are both descendant of Sun Shu, a government official of the Qi State in the Warring States Period and the first ancestor of the family name "Sun." They are also the children of the Le An Hall. The aim of establishing a bronze statue of Sun in the primary school is to educate the next generation of the Sun family to learn and advocate Sun's patriotism and revolutionary spirit," said Sun Bimin, the director of the Le An Sodality.
