Mar. 17, 2010 -- A new study of relationships in China reveals that a radical change is underway in the way Chinese look at dating and marriage.

"The Pink Paper on Opinion of Love and Marriage of Chinese Modern Men and Women in 2009" has captured the attention of the public recently. The paper analyzes the modern situation, trends and opinions of marriage and love through a survey of more than 78,000 single men and women who are members of a love and marriage Web site.

Internet: the first choice where people seek life partners

China has experienced four revolutions since China's Marriage Law took effect in 1950. Since the Internet dominates life in the 21st century, it seems a fifth revolution is upon us.

According to the survey, seeking life partners through the Internet has far surpassed other traditional ways in China; 96 percent of respondents could accept seeking life partners through Internet; more people prefer Internet communication than traditional meeting. People go this route mainly because it offers more choices. It is more accurate and convenient.

New fashion of healthy dating

Nowadays, young people eschew the traditional dinner and movie date for more active pursuits. Nearly 73 percent of netizens prefer a trip or outside sports as their programs of dating.

According to the survey, most netizens could accept sex before marriage and cohabitation, only 10 percent and 20 percent can not accept them, respectively. They said tradition couldn't be limitation on the basis of true love.

Around 30 percent of male respondents would like to find love like that which exists between a "big sister and little brother." Experts said it shows more men prefer to be taken care of by women under life's pressure.

Regarding "weekend couple," 32 percent could accept this kind of romance.
