Water performance as dragon dances
Close Shanghai Daily

Scuba divers perform an underwater dragon dance at Shanghai Ocean Aquarium yesterday in the run-up to the Year of the Dragon that starts on Monday.

Jan. 21, 2012 -- The performance will be held daily at 2pm during the Spring Festival celebrations, which last 15 days until the Lantern Festival, or the 15th day of the first month on the lunar calendar.

The dragon, the only creature in the Chinese zodiac that doesn't exist, is a symbol of wealth and power in China. The dragon in traditional Chinese culture has many faces, nine sons and multiple cosmic roles. It is everywhere - in the clouds and heavens, in the rivers, the oceans and in the underworld.
