March 12, 2010 -- A new book on one of China's leading metal companies was published in Beijing recently by the prestigious Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

The book entitled Study of Sinosteel Corporation is part of a series of surveys by the academy.

It is a comprehensive reflection of Sinosteel's development and provides theoretical support for Sinosteel's continued sustainable growth.

Every aspect of Sinosteel's reform from governance and management to operations and business layout is put under the spotlight.

The book is the result of China's national conditions survey project that was initiated in 2006. In June 2009, the economics division of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences set up an investigation group to begin intensive research into Sinosteel.

Study of Sinosteel Corporation was eventually born after initial research, repeated modification, extensive data collection, forums, and cooperation from everyone involved in the process.

The company was chosen as the subject of this research project because it not only shares characteristics with other enterprises that have endured substantial reform and growth, but also because of its outstanding performance and innovation.

Sinosteel is China's largest State-owned steel trader. It recorded 150 billion yuan in sales revenue in 2009 and ranked 372nd among the Fortune Global 500. It is a success story for a large State-owned enterprise growing up during the time of reform and opening-up.

The company has completed the initial stage of its strategic transformation from a traditional commercial enterprise to a modern manufacturing service business.

It has capitalized on the growing national economy and steel industry by clear positioning in the market, focusing on the core business operation, and vigorously implementing a strategy of specialization, internationalization and industrialization, assisted by information technology. Sinosteel has become a large-scale multinational.

Its core business activities are: resources development, which involves the developing and processing of metal, trading and logistics of metal; and technical engineering services and equipment manufacture.
