Brief Introduction:
Tashihungpo Monastery is one of six big monasteries from the Gelug Sect. It lies on the southern slope of Nyiseri Mountain, west of Xigaze City. In 1600 AD, the Tashihungpo Monastery became the main stage for generations of Panchen Erdeni lamas. The largest of bronze Buddha statues-the Qamba Buddha--was built there. The Qamba Buddha is made of over 120,000 kilogrammes of red copper, 6,700 taels of gold, 32 diamonds, over 1,400 pearls, amber, coral, and turquoise, and numerous other precious ornaments. There is a Han Buddha Hall that is unique to the Tashihungpo Monastery. There are also Holy stupas for the Panchen Lamas, from the first lama, who acted as the original abbot of the Tashihunpo Monastery to the 10th Panchen Erdeni, who just recently passed away.
