The Yao Zu Ethnic Minority lives in the remote mountains of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. These people still maintain the ancient custom forbidding women from going to school. A seven year old girl named Feng Mei has asked her father to allow her to go to school many times, but he always refuses her. Her father says things like, "Girls shouldn't be educated." In the beautiful Yao Mountain Range, Fengmei's wish to be educated is oppressed by this archaic custom. Fengmei is longing for a change in her fate.
